This year to save money I am remaking some of our clothes. I am now taking my son’s winter clothing that is too short in the arms or too short in the legs and remaking it into spring clothes or clothes for next fall. If a pair of pants fit well but are too short I will make them into shorts if the material is lightweight by simply cutting off or cutting off and hemming. If they are heavier weight but they still fit in the waist, I will make the pants longer by adding an insert into the area below the knee. I usually add some embroidery of a pirate or a cool patch (taken off clothes I am cutting up) to this area. I do the same for his long sleeve shirts and pajamas to make t-shirts and summer pjs. This really makes his clothing last much longer.
I am also doing this to a few of my items this year. I am taking some of my shirts that don’t fit quite right and turning them into short sleeve shirts or vests. I now have a few “new” items to wear for spring that didn’t cost me a cent. I also dug through my fabric and was able to make a quick lightweight scarf with ruffles by simply surging the edges. I like using what we already have and making something new from it.
