Here are some ideas to help you use up all that Halloween candy:
- Freeze it and save it for later
- Save it for school parties
- Use it at Christmas to make a Gingerbread House
- Put some away to stuff your Christmas stockings
- Send candy to our troops (no chocolate)
- Cut it up and mix it in ice cream or cookie recipes (instead of chocolate chips)
- Donate some to a food bank
- Save for an upcoming birthday party to use in a pinata or goody bags

My family and I always create a couple of “Shoeboxes” for Operation Christmas Child at this time of year. My kiddos pick out a sandwich bag worth of lollipops, hard candy and chewy candy and stash it in the Shoebox to be a part of the Christmas gift we donate to children around the world! My kids sure don’t need as much candy as they get each Halloween, and this allows them to pass some of it on to a child who may never get such treats. Win/win. 🙂

I can always use candy as a treat for good behavior for the students that ride my school bus. Teachers are given a budget for this sort of thing, but school bus drivers are not given any kind of help for a reward system. I have about 60 elementary and 48 high school/middle school students on my bus and buying candy for a once a month reward can become costly after a whole school year. We can’t use anything with any nuts in it because of food allergies and I don’t buy full size candy for them that would completely blow my budget. Donate some to your friendly school bus driver.

Great ideas!

As a substitute teacher I spend a lot of money on rewards on good behavior rewards (candy, pencils and erasers). If you know your child will have a substitute for the day you could help out with
items for rewards.
