Making food at home is not only healthier, but often saves money over the long term.
We started making bread at home a few months ago and discovered that it’s not only less expensive…it also allows us to have all natural/whole wheat or even all organic bread if I so choose. I started by using the bread machine my husband bought me 8 years ago for Christmas and I now make it the old-fashioned way about half of the time.
We also LOVE applesauce and were going through about 2 jars a week with the kids. I started making that at home and WOW! It tastes better and is all natural (no extra sugars). I can make any kind we are in the mood for just by combining fruits or adding cinnamon and as long as I get apples for $.99/lb…it’s a little cheaper!
Here is another great idea from Bethany @ Centsible Shopper: Make your own salad dressing. To me that sounds like a chore but her recipe looks so simple I think I’ll try it this week.
