We are big fans of all things natural, organic, non-toxic…and CHEAP! Since spring cleaning is the hot topic around town I thought we could start our series off with some Simple Solutions to cleaning your home frugally and in a people friendly, pet friendly, environmentally friendly way.
Some ways white vinegar can help clean your house:
- Remove coffee stains from the bottom of cups (a couple tablespoons will do it)
- Deodorize your garbage disposal (make vinegar ice cubes and feed them down, follow with cold water)
- Clean your dishwasher (run 1 c of white vinegar through an entire wash cycle
- Kill weeds between pavement cracks (straight vinegar in a spray bottle is perfect, but aim carefully)
- To cut all the wintery gunk on your windows (and even that pesky dog slobber!) Just mix equal parts vinegar and water (add a little lemon juice for extra grime cutting power), spray and wipe. I think it actally works better!
Some other things you can do with white vinegar:
- Replace lemon in a recipe (1/2 tsp vinegar in place of 1 tsp lemon juice)
- Use vinegar in place of a rinse agent (it works just as well for a fraction of the cost)
- Clean salt stains off boots (just wipe with a cloth dipped in straight vinegar)
- Use in your washer to soften scratchy materials like wool (just check for colorfastness first) Then put these and boots away until next year!!!
