Chrissy’s Mom plants a garden each year for her family and her children’s families as well! She grows lots of great vegetables to share with them and she’s quite good at it from what I hear.
Since produce is one of the MOST expensive things on our grocery lists and one of the things we use the most of…this year, Chrissy has enlisted her Mom to teach us how to start our own gardens. She will share the process here each week for the next several weeks.
Currently we go to farmer’s markets and my family is looking into buying produce (and diary/meat possibly) at some local farms and the Amish village a couple of hours away (in Jamesport, MO) but we realize there are even more benefits to doing it ourselves. First, it’s still cheaper to grow it at home even after cutting out transportation and middle-man. Second, our two children will learn a lot from helping out in the garden and it will give us another reason to go out each and every day to enjoy some family time. Third, the satisfaction I will get from knowing that I grew something myself…makes me giddy just thinking about it!
Since Missouri is so wishy-washy weather-wise in April I am going to start my seeds indoors and transplant them later in the month.
I’ll delve into the details tomorrow – come back!
