Before we post our Earth Day photos I wanted to say that I am in awe of how much each of us is doing to better the environment. We have had a tremendous response to the Earth Day Giveaway with some inspiring comments. I know you could reasonably argue that there is no selfless act but I’d have to disagree and say that this is one!
It often costs us extra to recycle, reduce, reuse and conserve; in terms of time and energy for certain and sometimes in terms of money, too!
So, while we are celebrating Earth Day let’s take a minute to celebrate each responsible, concerned environmental consumer; we are all taking small steps to make the world better for our children in the future!
So, here are the step my family has taken to cut back:
- We only use reuseable shopping bags! I have 8 regular bags and 2 thermal bags…they were $.99/ea (thermals were $1.99) and I LOVE THEM!!! Got them all at my local grocery stores.
- We do not buy household cleaners (I use kitchen staples to clean)
- We have almost entirely switched out our light bulbs to the energy saving ones (which I love)!
- We no longer use paper towels by the case on a weekly basis! Thanks Chrissy!
- We try to buy as much organic, locally grown foods as possible! (check out the Local Harvest site and others for more information)
- We RECYCLE!!! We are just getting our feet wet here so there will be room to expand but we currently recycle paper, cardboard, glass and plastic. You can check with your trash service or local government – they often have recycling programs already in place.
