Any ideas we can pass along here?
Today we shelled out $467 for new tires for my beloved ’97 Honda Accord.
We LOVE this car but have NEVER bought all 4 new tires at once. We have had the car for 8 years, put about 140k miles on it and haven’t had to do a lick of work on it, other than regular oil changes and occasional tires (two at a time).
This year we have put over $1200 in to this car after our other car (a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee) cost us $3k in front differential repairs and new tires! Funny how one car breaking down makes you think about how much you can spend to avoid another car breaking down! So, we changed the timing belt (which may have earned us a spot in the Guinness book of world records). Every mechanic we spoke to about this was SHOCKED, SHOCKED I TELL YOU, that we hadn’t had problems before 165k miles. This is why we LOVE this car.
Anyway, had we not been planning well for this tire purchase, we would have been in big trouble, or driving very unsafely on 4 old tires, so I’m wondering what you do to save money on these types of things.
We bought the tires at Costco, saving a little money up front and got a $60 cash card we used to buy summer clothes for me, my husband and son. Costco has great deals on clothes; if you need to buy some new you should check here first! The tires were good (80k mile tires with lifetime balance, rotation and air check – cool, huh?) and it’s nice to know there are Costco’s all over the country in case we ever needed to have something repaired or checked out.
Just looking for some feedback, what do you do?
