What is the Grocery Challenge?
This is a set amount of money that your family will try to stay under for the week for all of your household needs.
Chrissy’s Challenge:
This week I am going to do something different! I saw last week that Crystal was only shopping every other week to save time and money. I thought this would be a great way to save on gas and save time. I didn’t want to do every other week because I like being able to get all the good deals at the grocery stores every week. We also love fresh fruit and I thought it would be too hard to go two week in between trips. So I came up with a plan to shop ever 9-12 days.
Since my husband gets paid on the 19th of every month I will start on Thurs. the 19th. If I go every 9-12days I will not miss many sales at the grocery store because our ads run Wed to Tue. So one week I will be shopping at the start of the sale and the next week on the last day of the sale. With this new plan I will only be shopping 3 times instead of 5 from payday to payday. The only bad part about my plan is I will miss 2 weeks of CVS shopping! It will be very hard if they are having a great sale that week.
This will give me $93 for each of my three shopping trips. My big challenge will be to make sure to plan for enough milk and fresh fruits and vegs. I am also going to challenge myself to try to go to Rick’s (our discount grocery store) once a pay period. The rest of the time I will stay within a 5 mile area. In this 5 mile area I have 3 local grocery stores, Wal-Mart, Aldi’s, CVS, and Walgreens.
