With school starting and fall on our heals I was reminded that we have to start thinking about winter clothes, coats, Halloween costumes and Christmas gifts. It’s an expensive time of year, but it doesn’t have to be.
If you have children of any age I strongly encourage you to check out your local consignment sales for deals on these things. In most cases children outgrow (or get bored of) their things LONG before their useful life is up!
Just Between Friends is a nationwide ‘franchise‘ of locally run and managed consignment sales. They are typically held twice a year and are well organized and draw large crowds! I know the Kansas City sale is in two weeks – go to their site and look for a sale in your area! It’s worth the time and drive (if you are an hour or less away it’s definitely worth going!).
Now, since I moved to an area without a JBF franchise I was happy to hear that there are other similar sales that are unique to each city/region.
Check with your local churches and mom’s clubs for information or do a search online. We have Sun Valley Kids here in Phoenix and their sale is also in two weeks!
Last – I strongly encourage you to register with and USE Freepeats.org.
It’s a forum for “Freebies”. The idea is that listers will offer things their children are not using and in return they will find something they need, or maybe just clear out some space in their homes. There is one for most of the major metro areas (with more coming everyday!). I listed Nestle Good Start formula checks and a Chicco highchair yesterday!
Anything (for kids of course) you have that you are considering getting rid of, please utilize this resource first! The communities will only be as valuable as we make them. If more people start listing things, it will spur others to do the same! Imagine getting a trike or bike for your child for FREE! You can’t do that at a thrift store or garage sale!
