It doesn’t matter to me if you’re an Obama Mama or a Woman for McCain, but it does matter to me that you vote!
Voting is one of the most important green, frugal acts out there.
There are many points on which Obama and McCain disagree, but energy independence isn’t one of them. Sure, they would achieve this goal through different means, and I’m not saying I don’t have a preference, but voting, and specifically taking your kids to vote, is a free civics lesson that pays huge dividends in terms of them becoming future voters, opening up a window to talk about plurality and diversity, and impressing upon them the importance of a task that might seem pedestrian but in the end, no matter who wins, will make history. Take your kids to be part of that! Be a part of it yourself!
The next President will steer the course of economic recovery, decide on CO2 standards, and pick the head of the EPA, FDA, and other agencies, the ones that determine what is in our food, our toys, and our air.
In many parts of the country, you can walk to your polling place. Besides time, it doesn’t cost you anything, and this year, you can reap the rewards. You might have to wait in line. Bring some snacks, coloring books, an extra baby bottle. And when you’re done? Take advantage of the freebies mentioned here before and some new ones, too.
Get some free ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s stores!
Krispy Kreme locations around the country are handing out free star-shaped donuts with red, white and blue sprinkles to anyone with an “I Voted” sticker. Get details here.
A free tall coffee for everyone who says they voted (no sticker needed if you voted early or absentee!) at Starbucks.
In addition, dozens of businesses in our community are sponsoring different freebies, from burgers to bang trims. There is no reason not to vote today, but now you have a lot of extra incentive! When you’re done, take your political lawn sign(s) and upcycle them into a cute birdhouse, too!
