BeCentsAble is joining Harvesters, a Kansas City food bank and distribution center, in the Food Stamp Challenge. Harvesters asks this question: you may know what it’s like to have hunger pangs, but do you know what it’s really like to not know where your next meal is coming from, or how you will afford enough food to last until the end of the month? Take the Food Stamp Challenge and find out.
The Food Stamp Challenge is an effective way for you and your family to learn about the physical, emotional and social difficulties of poverty and food insecurity. Joining the challenge is also an opportunity to learn how much control you can have over your budget if you have the right tools.
The Food Stamp Program serves as our nation’s first line of defense against hunger by providing low-income people with funds to buy food at the supermarket using a special debit card. Food Stamp benefits are based on family size, income, expenses and several other factors.
A little bit of knowledge can go a long way, and the principles of saving discussed on this blog and taught through the BeCentsAble program can help Food Stamp recipients stretch their benefits even further! To demonstrate this, I am taking the Food Stamp Challenge next week, June 2nd through June 10th.
