As a new grocery store bargain shopper last summer, I remember reading blogs where people would post photos of a table full of groceries for $30 or $40, sometimes even less. At that time, I didn’t really know what I was spending on a table full of groceries, but I was pretty sure it was a lot more than $40! It took a couple of months of collecting coupons and learning to match deals, but pretty soon I was bringing home trophy receipts, excitedly telling my husband how little I’d spent on groceries for the week and sharing my deals with others. This is the first time I’ve ever actually posted a photo, but since there’s a few days left in the week and there’s still time to snag these great deals at Target, I thought I’d share.
I wrote up a few of the sales and coupon matches available at Target this week in this Target post (with Ginger’s help), including the Fiber One deal where you buy four Fiber One products and receive a $5.00 gift card. We were running low on cereal and granola bars and we really enjoy Fiber One products so I made a trip to grab some. Plus, when I looked through my coupon organizer, I found several Fiber One coupons from the Eat Better America mailing (including $1.00 off yogurt and $1.00 off any Fiber One cereal) and some from another coupon book I’d received in the mail ($1.00 off yogurt and $0.75 off cereal). Those coupons helped make this deal so good I couldn’t pass it up!
While at the store, I discovered that not only were the yogurts and toaster pastries included in the Fiber One deal ($1.88 for the yogurt and $1.79 for the toaster pastries at my store) but also that the boxes of cereal I was planning to purchase had Buy One, Get One Free coupons on the back for the yogurt! My Target had run out of yogurt and wouldn’t be restocked until that night, plus I had to go home to cut up my cereal boxes anyway so I planned to return the next day. The closest Target is a short walk from my house so I didn’t mind having to go a second time.
Here’s what I bought in those two trips.
5 boxes Fiber One granola bars
6 multi-packs Fiber One yogurt
3 boxes Fiber One toaster pastries
5 boxes Fiber One cereal
1 box Fiber One muffin mix
1 box Smartfood popcorn snack packs
2.5 lb apples
5 lb potatoes
1 gallon lemonade
Total: $10.41
The total includes tax and is after the gift cards. That’s a lot of food for $10!
I’ve been craving dairy foods this pregnancy and my daughter would eat two yogurts a day if I would let her, so it won’t take us long to go through all those packs of yogurt. They don’t expire for a month. I’ve also been craving lemonade, and it was on clearance. The apples were close to free since they were on sale for $0.99/lb and there’s a $1.00 Target printable coupon for apples available. I also had a $1.00 Target coupon for the potatoes. The Smartfood deal is detailed in this Target post, plus there was another $1.00 coupon in last Sunday’s (May 3) SmartSource insert. Possibly the best part is that we’re going out of town this weekend so we’ve been eating leftovers and meals from the freezer this week and that’s all the shopping I had to do.
Have any of you stocked up on the Fiber One deal? Even without any coupons, the yogurts would only cost $0.63 each after the gift card. With my coupons, I was able to make money buying 6 packs of yogurt. What a great deal! The toaster pastries would only cost $0.54 a box after the gift card without any coupons, and, if you’re like us and don’t eat them, you can donate them to Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday.
