Many people tell me they want to start saving money but they don’t know how to get started. I always tell them one of the best places to start is with your grocery bill. This is an easy area to get started and save big money. I use lots of different ways to cut my grocery budget but let’s start today with coupons. Here are a few things I suggest to anyone getting started with coupons to help them save money and time.
Education is KEY-A few years ago I read about coupon strategies and wondered, what is a coupon strategy? Don’t you just cut your coupon out and hand it to the cashier? What could I do differently? Hand the coupon to the cashier with the left hand instead of the right? After months of reading I realized I had been wrong! Education is key! Take the time to learn how to use coupons. Becentsable has a new workshop called Fundamentals of Couponing for only $7 that will help teach you how to save money and time with coupons. We also have a big list of coupon articles to help you get started.
Learn how to get more coupons-Don’t just get your coupons from the newspaper. You can find high value coupons in tons of places. Printable coupons are an easy way to get coupons. My two favorite places are here and here. Another great place to find coupons are coupon clipping services. You can get coupons clipped or whole inserts. You can also load ecoupons onto your store loyalty card or use coupons to help save for college!
Let others do the work-I used to spends hours looking at the grocery store ads to find all the best deals and match up coupons, but no more! I use the Grocery Gathering at Becentsable and let other people do the work for me. The Grocery Gathering is a network of over 140 blogs that cover stores all across the country. These wonderful blogs tell you what the best deals are at your local store and match up coupons.
Get organized-Coupons can be a big waste of time if you are not organized. I use The Couponizer to file my loose coupons and use it at the store. You can read our review here.
