It’s time to start thinking about Halloween! This one night can cost a ton of money! A cute little costume can cost up to $40. That is a crazy amount of money to spend on an outfit your child will wear for about 2 hours! Here are a few tips to help you get a costume on a budget.
Trade:
Ask around and see if anyone has a costume you can use. Even if they don’t have a child the same size you might be able to use accessories like hats, tails, wigs or a cape.
Buy used:
Make sure to check all your local consignment shops or garage sales. Costumes are a great thing to buy used because chances are the child only used the item for a few hours. You should be able to pick up a nice costume for under $10.
Get creative:
Look around the house for things you could use. Get creative and have some fun!
1. Use dress up clothes:
- Jessie the Cowgirl (Toy Story 3)
- Princess/King
2. Paint a big box:
- Robot
- Car
- Train
3. Look in the closet:
- Dora-Orange shorts, pink shirt and a backpack
- Rapunzel-White nightgown and make a long wig out of yarn
- Dalmatian-Add spots to some sweatpants
