August 17, 2011 is a huge milestone day for my family. On this day, we will have a Senior in High School, a Kindergartner and a Preschooler. I have been blessed to be home with our children for the last 5 years and I’m finding it difficult to even comprehend this whole NEW season in my life.
As I get older and maybe a little wiser, I realize that I have an issue with TIME.
I’m embarrassed to confess that during the summer my daughter was late to VBS which began at 9 am. Oh boy! I realized I need to get my act in gear and figure out a way to do a better job to get ready for school which begins at the SAME time for her.
Our oldest has an “early riser” gene from his dad. Our daughter got my “love to sleep” gene!
Goal: Have children at school on time. AKA – Have MOM on time!
Here is my plan of action:
1. I researched, talked with friends and brainstormed ideas.
2. I found a site to help with a household plan or schedule.
- Check out Motivated Moms! They have printable household planners and chore charts on sale 50% off HERE!
3. I put some ideas into place and on paper to help remind us.
4. I started small!
- Goal: Ready by 9am but worked in smaller intervals to get there.
- Each week we began going to bed & getting up 15 minutes earlier
5. I took it easy on myself if I messed up! I’m SO far from perfect, but tried to get back on schedule the next day.
6. I had my children take some responsibility (advice I heard from the First Lady) and get themselves ready.
- I posted their routines in their rooms, used parental guidance & took small steps! Again, no one is perfect so take it easy!
I wish you all the best as you get ready for a wonderful & blessed new school year! Join me next week as I share our routines.
