Costumes are a great thing to purchase used, because for the most part children wear them one day!
Beg! I have found that many people are willing to let me borrow, buy cheaply or trade for the costumes. With only a little begging!
Borrow! I have been to Just Between Friends consignment sales, local consignments stores as well as contacting my friends, family and using facebook and my mom’s support groups to find out if anyone has costumes that I could borrow.
Steal! We have a budget and like to be frugal when we can and ‘tis the season even if it is only Halloween. I started looking for deals early this year. I have looked at ebay, online stores deals and coupons, as well as craigslist, and asked my mom’s support group. I found a Princess Jasmine and Aladdin outfits on eBay for a faction of the retail cost. Total for both was only $9.00. I also found a Dorothy dress & shoes from the Wizard of Oz Movie for only $11.oo for both at a local consignment store. Decisions, decisions!
If you decide to purchase something new, look for deals that might include free shipping, a special coupon, look at discount stores and wholesale clubs.
Knowing what the child wants and talking about compromises, will help you save in the long run. Remember to think about using the costume for dress up after the big day or for the next sibling.
Happy Trick-or-Treating!
