The kitchen often becomes the primary spot for homework in many homes. Help contain the clutter by creating a designated space for school supplies and keep it all organized by using containers that you probably already have on hand.
Here are a few of my favorite containers to re-purpose.
Baby Food Containers
Most of these are completely blank once you remove the wrapper. The canisters for the rice puffs are my favorite for pens, pencils, markers and crayons. Kids can decorate the canister with their name, stickers, paint, etc. The small glass jars are great for paper clips, tacks, etc. Formula containers make perfect flash card holders.
Coffee Cans
These are another great container for art supplies and larger items such as calculators, protractors, etc.
Plastic Jars from Fruit and Peanut Butter
These make great spare change containers. They are heavy duty enough to hold the weight of coins and fun for kids to watch fill up. When they are full the kids can roll the change for their bank account or donate it to the charity of their choice. These are also great for crayons and markers.
Keep all of these in an area that’s easily accessible to the kids so that they can be responsible for putting the items away after they have completed their assignments and cleaned out their pockets and backpacks.
