Along with information on the system we use and the stores we shop at for the best deals, it’s important to know some grocery shopping basics!
Planning and organizing your grocery shopping will save you as much time and money as clipping and using coupons! It’s really half the puzzle!
See the details behind the coupon system. After you understand that piece you need to spend some time thinking about how you shop and cook for your family!
Answers to the following questions will help you recognize your family’s stock-up potential. Stocking up is the primary key to saving money on your grocery bill! You want to stock up when prices are low in order to take advantage of savings and to hold you over until the item is on sale again.
The place to start is in your kitchen. Grab a notebook and sit down for a few minutes to think about your families eating habits. Are you home for breakfast and lunch each day? Do you eat as a family? Do you have freezer space to store leftovers and stock up on some foods?
The next step is to think about what you are cooking from week to week. Most families have 5-6 “stand-by” meals. These are the no-brainer meals you cook each month. You know your family likes them and you don’t have to follow a recipe. If you are home during the day, you can add lunch and breakfast to this activity.
Once you have identified your meals, you just make a list of items you need for those recipes, and determine what can be stocked up on; this is your shopping guide!
So – now you have a list of stock up items, you know to watch for sales on these (and other items your family uses) and to then combine those sales with coupons.
For grocery savings remember, plan – organize – look for sales – practice coupon timing!
