For Christmas, the kids and I always have a tree that only has ornaments on it that we have made. It makes for a really pretty tree and the kids love seeing all their creations on display.
If you want to make some easy ornaments with your kids, here are some ideas that might help.
One of my favorites is this snowflake ornament. We made with Popsicle sticks that we painted white and glued into a snowflake pattern. Then we decorated it with buttons, glitter and pom-poms.
We also added this poem to it:
The Legend of a Snowflake
Long ago,
a gleaming star led
the way to a Child
born in a Manger.
Today it is believed
that Snowflakes are
little pieces of that
special Star
that leads us to
The Light of
the World, Jesus.
Another easy idea is gluing pom-poms to a piece of cardboard that is cut into the shape of a triangle. Then glue 2 extra pom-poms to the bottom for the trunk.
This is a great project for older kids. Start with a Styrofoam ball. Then put 2 gum balls onto a tooth pick and then poke it into the ball. Do this until the ball is completely covered. Finish by adding a bow.
Here is a snow man made from 3 paper cups, candy canes, markers, buttons and construction paper.
Use 2 cup bottoms as the head and middle of the snowman. And the third bottom for the hat.
Use one of the rims for the base of the snowman.
Decorate the face with a marker. Glue on button in the center. Poke holes in the sides of the middle section for the candy cane arms.
With construction paper, cut out boots and a scarf and glue on.
This is my girls favorite ornaments to make. Cut out Christmas shapes from cardboard or last years Christmas cards. Poke a hole in the top for the hook.
Load the shape up with glue, and sprinkle on lots of glitter.
This is an easy project for little hands. Cut a candy cane shape out of craft foam and then the child can glue on the buttons.
I love this Rudolf ornament. Use a red Christmas ball (I used plastic) and glue on Rudolf’s face. Chenille stems for the antlers. Red pom-pom for the nose.
This is also super easy. Give a child a Chenille stem and let them thread on the beads . Curl the top for the candy cane shape.
I hope these give you a few ideas to make some of your own ornaments!
