If you’ve never heard of Upromise or have but just haven’t taken the time to sign up, read this…
My husband and I signed up for UPromise many years before we had kids. Without even trying (I’ll explain that in a bit) we saved over $500 (free money!) We did this to help offset our student loans just a bit. UPromise works with several lenders to transfer money between your UPromise account and your student loan account on a quarterly basis.
No planning, no money of our own towards the $500. All we did was shop and buy the things we would have purchased anyway.
The primary avenue for savings for us is through the loyalty and debit card link-up. We try not to use our credit cards (although they are linked up as well) and we don’t shop online a lot (except for eBay!)
You can also be strategic about how you shop. Shopping online gets you greater opportunity for savings and UPromise works with hundreds of online retailers. They also offer promotional savings periods where you can earn 5% or even 10% back on a purchase for a limited time.
Here’s how it works:
:: First you have to sign-up! Then set up your account with all of your credit, debit and loyalty cards. It takes a little bit of time but you only have to do it once!
:: Make a purchase at a retailer with your debit or credit card or with a loyalty card (or through a participating online retailer -you MUST link to them via the UPromise site)
:: In about 2-3 weeks (sometimes less) you’ll see the savings show on your account!
Easy as pie!
You have the option of opening a 529 account within UPromise (through your state) and having it linked to UPromise as well.
Try it out…you will only sacrifice a little time…there’s no catch, no fees, no obligations…no reason to put it off!
