My family and I had the opportunity to go to St. Louis recently for a weekend getaway. The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission offered us the chance to come check out their wonderful city and share with you how to save money on vacations and travel.
Last week, I shared some general tips on how to save money on a weekend getaway. Today, I will share how to save money on entertainment and eating out!
When we travel, we love to check out local restaurants! When we went to St. Louis, we ate at The Boathouse, Morgan Street Brewery, and several other local restaurants. It fun to eat at new and different places!
Tips for Saving Money when Eating Out:
- Use coupons – The Entertainment Book is one of our favorite coupon books. Many times we will buy an Entertainment Book for the city in which we are traveling. You can also try to search online. Do a quick Internet search and see what coupons you can find. Don’t forget to also check out Restaurant.com!
- Use Groupon – Sign up for Groupon in the city you are visiting. Groupon is a fabulous daily deal site which offers unbeatable prices through the power of group buying. Every day or so, Groupon will offer an amazing deal on the best things to do around town; such as dining out and entertainment
- Don’t waste food – You can’t get a “doggie” bag when you are on vacation (unless you have fridge), so make sure to watch your portions. Many times restaurants give very large portions sizes and you could split this with your kids or your spouse.
- Check for “kids eat free” restaurants – find a restaurant that has a kids eat free program! Visit www.kidseatfree.com to find some!
On our weekend getaway, we checked out both the City Museum and the Children’s Museum. Museums are a great place for the whole family! I loved the City Museum! This was a fun and interactive museum for children and adults! They had enchanted caves, an aquarium, an art city, play land and much more.
