Okay…it’s time for another review and giveaway and this time it’s FOOD!
Prego asked us to review their gift pack and participate in a $10 (or less) Healthy Family Meal Challenge!
We are extending that challenge to you…and we want to share your menu plans, ideas for stretching a meal and thoughts on the healthfulness of pasta sauce with the BeCentsAble community.
Here’s the plan…come up with a frugal meal using the ingredients listed below and adding to it whatever your family prefers, share the recipe if there is one, number of servings and the cost of the meal in total. Also consider the healthy value of the meal.
- Prego Pasta Sauce
- canned vegetables
- any variety pasta
- spices to your taste
- other ingredients you have on hand

We will be making our meal sometime this week and I will post my results along with you…
I wanted to comment on the health quality of this particular product.
We received the Heart Smart variety (as shown in the photo). I was surprised to see that it was GLUTEN FREE (awesome since my son is GF)! Not all pasta sauces are. I was also happy to see that the ingredients list was pretty all natural (there are some preservatives in it) and the calories, fat, sodium and cholesterol were reasonable.
We try to buy organic foods but I am not always able to buy organic pasta sauce…they tend to be $1-$2 more and even if I find a coupon it’s still more than the other varieties.
Prego looks like a GREAT product to add to our pantry stock (maybe they can create an organic line??).
There is a bit more sugar in this variety but it’s still only 9 grams per serving.
Okay…get working on those menu plans!
